Barrel Description
The Schpirerr Farben pencil shaft is round and very attractive. The pencil is divided in half by a decorative silver band. The lower part of the shaft is gold, while the upper half of the pencil displays the color representing the pencil’s pigment. 
Then end of the pencil is capped.
On one side of the barrel printed in silver are the words “Schpirerr Farben,” which appear in the upper part of the pencil. The pencil color and pigment number identification are on the opposite side of the company name. [Return to TOC]

No rating. Lightfastness is a property of a colorant such as dye or pigment that describes how resistant to fading it is when exposed to light. Lightfast rating is essential to artists, especially when they spend long hours creating art; they will want the work of art to keep its vibrancy for years to come. The Schpirerr Farben Colored Pencils are soft oil-core with a broad range of beautiful, vibrant colors with rich pigment. The colors are nicely arranged in order of color. First Inspection
As a habit, when I first open the box of pencils, I like first to check pencil duplications and missing pencils. Check to make sure the cores are centered. Next, I will check them for pencils for imperfections (e.g., shaft spits, broken cores, light printing). Upon inspection, I did find the silver printing on the shaft to be a little hard to read. How the Colored Pencils Performed
The Schpirerr Farben colored pencils are a oil-based core, and I had a charming coloring experience with the pencils. The soft pencil cores seemed durable, which helps them last longer, making them resistant to breakage, and needing constant
sharpening.
I liked how they felt in my hand. As I used the pencil, the core felt creamy/soft with no scratchy feeling. I felt the color saturation was very lovely. I liked the way color the pigment was laid down on both toothed and smooth coloring book paper. The color palette is sufficient to allow me to color an image in any themed adult coloring book.
As I tested the layering, I purposely was heavy-handed and had a thick application on one coloring page, and I applied a lighter touch and gently applied the layers I wanted.
The smooth blending and shading were just as good and met what I needed for coloring. I could put down multiple layers and blend the pencils with little effort. I also used a blender from Prismacolor, which produced nice smooth results. The Schpirerr Farben performed well in all cases, producing beautiful colors.
As I colored, I found a little smuggling of the colors, and I did experience just a minimal amount of crum shedding, which was minimal. The pencils were easy to sharpen, and I could sharpen 96 pencils to a fine point with no breakage. Regarding paper, the pencil performance seemed to be just as good on the basic Amazon coloring book paper as on the more expensive artist edition coloring books.
I think there are various ways to determine how you gain the most from the Schpirerr Farben colored pencil. You can use the Schpirerr Farben coloring pencil
- As your sole source of a coloring pencil.
- For practice, before you use more expensive pencils (e.g., Pablo’s, Polychromos)
- In combination with other pencil sets.
- For sharing with others in family projects.
- For non-permanent work.
Review Summary and Rating
I think the Schpirerr Farben Colored Pencils are a good choice and good value for the price point for the adult coloring community. The pencils are nice looking and have a nice feel in my hands. The soft pencil cores seemed durable, which helps
them last longer, making them resistant to breakage, and needing constant sharpening.
I like the wide color selection, which allows you to color any themed coloring book (e.g., portraits, landscapes, seascapes, varied designs). Layering, blending and shading were easy and consistent. Tips for Purchasing
Schriprerr Farben Colored Pencils are considered low-end/budget (Under .50 cents) and come in set sizes of 72 or 96 pencils. Usually, before purchasing, it is advisable to get a feel of the pencils by either purchasing a small set or individual pencils when you can buy open-stock or if you know someone who has the pencils can try theirs. Because Schriprerr Farben Colored Pencils do not come in open stock, there is no way to personally test the pencils before buying them. I purchased the 100-set (to add to my collection.)
If you decide to get a set, I suggest getting the most extensive set you can afford to avoid duplicates and give yourself a full pallet of colors to work with. In the long run, I feel like I save the most, and I especially look for special promotions during holiday seasons and put out price watches on my favorite eCommerce sites.
